Mobile terminals with barcode scanner

 

All tablets and terminals with barcode scanner have a 2D imager that reads both linear 1D codes (e.g. EAN13, EAN8, Code128, UPC-A, ...) and square 2D codes (e.g. QR, DataMatrix, ...).

 

The advantage is that linear codes do not depend on the orientation (rotation), so scanning is more convenient. On the other hand, it can be a problem to read the right code if there are several of them on a given product. However, the sensors can be set so that when the trigger is pressed, only the reticle lights up and the reading is done only when the trigger is released with the reticle on the specific code.
