Barcode technology enables fast and reliable identification of goods, materials, stock and assets. Our range includes solutions for warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, retail and other applications using automatic data capture.
Depending on the application, you can choose handheld, wireless or fixed barcode scanners, or mobile devices with an integrated scanner. For mobile work in warehouses and logistics, you can also use mobile computers with barcode scanners.
An automatic identification system may also include label printers, labels, thermal transfer ribbons and other consumables. The right combination of scanner, printer and labelling method depends on the barcode type, operating environment, required scanning distance, workload and the information system being used.
When selecting a solution, consider whether you need to read 1D or 2D barcodes, the required scanning distance, the conditions in which the labels will be used and how the captured data should be transferred to a WMS, ERP or other business system.
1D barcodes are traditional linear barcodes. 2D codes such as QR Code or Data Matrix can store more information in a smaller area. For new installations, a 2D imager is often the more versatile option because it can normally also read standard 1D barcodes.
A handheld scanner is suitable when an operator actively scans individual items. Fixed scanners are commonly used in automated processes, production lines or locations where the barcode passes through a defined scanning point without the operator handling the scanner.
A wired scanner is suitable for a fixed workstation and does not require battery management. A wireless scanner gives the operator greater freedom of movement and is useful when working with larger parcels, pallets or across a wider work area.
Scanning performance depends on the barcode type and quality, size, contrast, damage, scanning distance, label surface and scanner technology. For demanding applications, the scanner should therefore be tested with the actual barcodes and in the real operating environment.
Yes. The connection method depends on the device, interface and application. Simple scanners can transmit the scanned code in a similar way to a keyboard, while mobile computers and automated systems can work directly with business applications or integration interfaces.
