When choosing the right rugged mobile computer, it is important to consider the operating environment, required scanning range, intensity of use, data-entry method, connectivity and required battery life. A configuration suitable for occasional inventory counting may be different from one intended for continuous warehouse operation, high-rack scanning, manufacturing or high-speed RFID inventory.

How to choose a CHAINWAY mobile computer
How do I choose the right CHAINWAY mobile computer?
Start by considering where and how the device will be used. For standard warehouse operations, a conventional 2D scanner is usually sufficient. Long Range scanning can be useful for high racks, UHF RFID for fast inventory counting, and a physical keypad for workflows with frequent manual data entry. Durability, battery life and connectivity requirements should also be considered.
What is the difference between 1D and 2D barcode scanning?
A 1D scanner is designed for traditional linear barcodes. A 2D imager can scan 2D codes such as QR codes and Data Matrix as well as standard 1D barcodes. For new deployments, a 2D imager is generally the more versatile option.
When is a Long Range scanner useful?
Long Range scanning is particularly useful in warehouses with high racks, when working from forklifts or other material-handling equipment, or wherever barcodes need to be captured from a greater distance. For close-range scanning, a standard-range scanner is usually sufficient.
When should I choose a mobile computer with UHF RFID?
UHF RFID is suitable when larger quantities of tagged items need to be identified quickly without scanning every label individually. Typical applications include inventory counting, asset tracking, logistics and tracking materials or products.
Is a touchscreen or keypad mobile computer better?
It depends on the workflow. A touchscreen device offers familiar operation similar to a modern smartphone. A physical keypad can be more practical when operators frequently enter quantities, warehouse locations, numbers or other data and need fast input without precise touchscreen operation.
Can CHAINWAY mobile computers be used with WMS or business software?
Yes. The appropriate configuration depends on the application and the required method of integration. When selecting the hardware, it is therefore important to consider how the mobile computer will communicate with the WMS, ERP or other business system.
How is service for CHAINWAY mobile computers handled?
We provide technical support and service facilities for CHAINWAY devices in the Czech Republic. Spare parts and accessories are also available, allowing us to support both the initial deployment and the subsequent operation of the devices.
