For standard receiving, dispatch, order picking and inventory counting, a mobile computer with an integrated 2D scanner is often a practical solution. A rugged tablet may be more suitable when operators need to view larger amounts of information or work with more complex applications.

It depends on the identification technology used in your workflow. A 2D imager can read standard 1D barcodes as well as QR codes, Data Matrix and other 2D symbologies. RFID is suitable for applications requiring contactless identification of RFID tags.

A rugged tablet is useful when a larger display is important, for example when working with documentation, forms, technical drawings or more complex business applications. The required ruggedness, battery life and operating environment should also be considered.

This depends on the device and workflow. Common accessories include charging and communication cradles, spare batteries, mounts, protective equipment and other items designed to support reliable everyday operation.
