NFC RFID TAGS

13.56 MHz NFC tags for contactless identification

NFC RFID tags operate at 13.56 MHz and are designed for short-range contactless identification. Rigid NFC tags can be used for equipment, assets, tools and other objects that need to be deliberately identified using a compatible NFC reader or mobile device.

Unlike UHF RFID tags, NFC is primarily intended for communication in close proximity to an individual tag. This is useful in applications where the operator needs to identify one specific object without reading multiple nearby tags.

Rigid NFC tags can be used for asset tracking, service and inspection processes, equipment identification and other enterprise applications. Their mounting method, memory capacity and writing options depend on the chip and construction of the specific tag.

Important selection criteria include compatibility with the reader, chip type, mounting method, material of the tagged object and operating environment. Operating at 13.56 MHz alone does not mean that every RFID reader automatically supports every NFC tag.

Compatible equipment can be found among our mobile computers with NFC and RFID readers. If both NFC and longer-range UHF identification are required, consider UHF + NFC tags.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How to choose an NFC RFID tag

What is the difference between NFC and UHF RFID tags?

NFC operates at 13.56 MHz and is primarily designed for targeted communication at short range. UHF RFID provides a much longer working range and, depending on the application, can also identify multiple tags quickly.

Can data be written to an NFC tag?

Many NFC tags support writing, but the available functions depend on the chip and its configuration. Memory capacity, supported operations and options for protecting or locking data vary between tag types.

Will an NFC tag work with every phone or reader?

Not necessarily. The device must support the relevant NFC technology and the particular tag type. Compatibility should therefore be checked with the reader, mobile computer or mobile device that will actually be used.

What is the read range of an NFC RFID tag?

NFC is designed for short-range communication. Actual range depends on the tag, antenna size, reader, material of the tagged object and operating environment. In practice, the reader is normally brought into close proximity to the tag.
